Coffee and Cups

Filed under: Uncategorized — christienne at 12:09 am on Thursday, June 12, 2008

GOOD ONE! (Think about it the next time you pour a cup.)

CoffeeA group of alumni, all highly established in their respective careers, got together for a visit with their old university professor. The conversation soon turned to complaints about the endless stress of work and life in gene ral… Offering his guests coffee, the professor went into the kitchen and soon returned with a large pot of coffee and an eclectic assortment of cups: porcelain, plastic, glass, crystal - some plain, some expensive, some quite exquisite. Quietly he told them to help themselves to some fresh coffee.. When each of his former students had a cup of coffee in hand, the old professor quietly cleared his throat and began to patiently address the small gathering… ”You may have noticed that all of the nicer looking cups were taken up first, leaving behind the plainer and cheaper ones. While it is only natural for you to want only the best for yourselves, that is actually the source of much of your stress-related problems." He continued…”Be assured that the cup itself adds no quality to the coffee. In fact, the cup merely disguises or dresses up what we drink. What each of you really wanted was coffee, not a cup, but you instinctively went for the best cups… Then you began eyeing each other’s cups….” ”Now consider this: Life is coffee. Jobs, money, and position in society are merely cups. They are just tools to shape and contain Life, and the type of cup we have does not truly define nor change the quality of the Life we live. Often, by concentrating only on the cup, we fail to enjoy the coffee that God has provided us… God brews the coffee, but he does not supply the cups. Enjoy your coffee!” The happiest people don’t have the best of everything, they just make the best of everything they have… So please remember: Live simply. Love generously. Care Deeply. Speak Kindly. Leave the Rest to God. And remember - the richest person is not the one who has the most, but the one who needs the least.

Prayer

Filed under: Uncategorized — christienne at 1:26 am on Saturday, December 8, 2007

Dear
Lord,
I thank you for this day. I thank You for my being able to see
and to hear this morning. I’m blessed because You are a forgiving God
and an understanding God. You have done so much for me and You keep on
blessing me. Forgive me this day for everything I have done, said or
thought that was not pleasing to you. I ask now for Your forgiveness.

Please
keep me safe from all danger and harm. H elp me to start this day with
a new attitude and plenty of gratitude. Let me make the best of each
and every day to clear my mind so tha t I can hear from You.

Please broaden my mind that I can accept all things.

Let
me not whine and whimper over things I have no control over. Let me
continue to see sin through God’s eyes and acknowledge it as evil. And
when I sin, let me repent, and confess with my mouth my wrongdoing, and
receive the forgiveness of God.

And when this world closes in
on me, let me remember Jesus’ example — to slip away and find a quiet
place to pray. It’s the best response when I’m pushed beyond my limits.
I know that when I can’t pray, You listen to my heart. Continue to use
me to do Your will.

Continue to bless me that I may be a
blessing to others. Keep me strong that I may help the weak. Keep me
uplifted that I may have words of encouragement for others. I pray for
those who are lost and can’t find their way. I pray for those who are
misjudged and misunderstood. I pray for those who don’t know You
intimately. I pray for those who will delete this without sharing it w
ith others. I pray for those who don’t believe. But I thank you that I
believe.

I
believe that God changes people and God changes things. I pray for all
my sisters and brothers.. For each and every family member in their
households. I pray for peace, love and joy in their homes that they are
out of debt and all their needs are met.

I pray that every eye
that reads this knows there is no problem, circumstance, or situation
greater than God. Every battle is in Your hands for You to fight. I
pray that these words be received into the hearts of every eye that
sees them and every mouth that confesses them willingly..

This is my prayer.
In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

After the big C

No, it’s not cancer.
It’s C for C-section I had when I delivered my beautiful baby girl. I really thought I’d deliver normally, and I was looking forward to giving birth to a baby boy. Both did not happen. I guess God has His reasons. Either way, I am happy I finally met this wonderful baby i was carrying fo nine months. I kept wondering how she’ll look like, hoping she’d have his daddy’s features, anxious about deformations and the likes. But thank the Lord, she’s healthy, as I’ve always prayed about.
The following days saw baby blues that at times I had. I’d feel inadequate when her cries I cannot soothe (I haven’t learned to decipher her cries yet). There were those who cared enough to visit me and my baby, some of our brothers and sisters from CGC, Rix’s friends, our common friends, my officemates, and of course Rix’s and my family. My spirits get lifted up when they comment on how cute or beautiful my daughter is, baby pinks replace these baby blues, I feel much happier caring for her and I call her my bundle of joy. I am thankful also to those who visited me right after my operation. I am most grateful to God who healed me day by day that I may not become a burden to anyone, especially my husband.
I am savoring each day, each moment I’m with my baby. I find that I learn much from her, to take things and tasks a day at a time, as I am following her developments. I should not think of the things she must learn because she will get there eventually. It’s one step at a time for her. I like watching her explore, and she’s trying to learn by imitating what we do, like talking and hand gestures.

The Psalmist

Even before our time, David had already been experiencing the woes of humanity.
"Help, Lord, for no-one is faithful any more; those who are loyal have vanished from the human race. Everyone lies to their neighbor; they flatter with their lips but harbour deception in their hearts." Psalm 12:1-2
Still, even while he was very much disappointed, he continued to look unto God.
"But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation. I will sing the Lord’s praise, for he has been good to me." Psalm 13: 5-6
I wish politicians could read this Psalm of David, that they may be guided in serving the country and its people.
"Lord, who may dwell in your sanctuary? Who may live on your holy mountain? Those whose way of life is blameless, who do what is righteous, who speak the truth form their hearts; who have no slander on their tongues, who do their neighbours no wrong, who cast no slur on others; who despise those whose ways are vile but honour whoever fears the Lord; who keep their oaths even when it hurts; who lend money to the poor without interest and do not accept bribes against the innocent. Whoever does these things will never be shaken." Psalm 15: 1-5

God knows my every need
Through prayer His heart is touched
His hand is moved
To perform His wondrous deed
It is not I who is talking
But listening to His voice
Through prayer I seek His will
Closer to Him I am walking
I cannot count on me
Through prayer I trust in God
My hand can do nothing
A person of prayer to be
To offer Him His praise
To confess my iniquities
To come with a grateful heart
His glory to Him raise
